Open call – Transitio_MX05 new media art festival – deadline 5 July 2013

OPEN CALL FOR ARTWORKS

The New Media Art and Video Festival TRANSITIO_MX, taking place bianually in Mexico City, is one of the most important events in Latin America that facilitate the presentation and analysis of contemporary artistic practices by means of technology and digital culture. The event’s main objective is to support, recognize and disseminate current research and production around artistic media technology through an exhibition, a competition, a symposium and a series of workshops. The first edition of the festival was held in 2005. Since then each edition of TRANSITIO_MX has had a specific theme. TRANSITIO_MX05 in 2013 will address the issue of Biomediations. Joanna Zylinska of Goldsmiths, University of London, will be its first ever international Artistic Director.

The Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (CONACULTA), through the Centro Multimedia of Centro Nacional de las Artes (CENART), has issued an open call for a competation that will be part of TRANSITIO_MX05. Submissions are accepted for the following awards:

TRANSITIO_MX PRIZE

Open to all artists aged 18 and over, Mexicans and foreign, and to artistic collectives, it solicits works in the area of technological and digital media artistic production as well as hybrid productions generated at the intersection between art, science, technology and the human.

• First prize valued at $120,000.00 (One hundred and twenty-thousand pesos 00/100)
• Second prize valued at $80,000.00 (Eighty thousand pesos 00/100)
• Third prize valued at $60,000.00 (Sixty thousand pesos 00/100)
• Honorable mentions

• TRANSITIO_MX PRIZE FOR YOUNG MEXICAN ARTISTS

Targetting young Mexicans residing in Mexico or abroad (between 18 and 25 years of age on the closing date of this announcement).

• Prize valued at $40,000.00 (Forty-thousand pesos 00/100)
• Honorable mentions

The awards ceremony will take place as part of the New Media Art and Video Festival TRANSITIO_MX05, to be celebrated in Mexico City through September 20 to 29, 2013.

*** Although the festival itself is themed, this open call competition accepts all kinds of works, as long as they: (1) are related to electronic/new media arts, either on a conceptual or technical level; (2) have an interdisciplinary and/or experimental character. ***
