Supported by the Goldsmiths DIGITAL STUDIOS and the Goldsmiths GRADUATE SCHOOL
6pm until 8pm, Ben Pimlott Building, Goldsmiths, University of London, New Cross, SE14 6NW
FREE, ALL ARE WELCOME
CHARLOTTE FROST and MARC GARRETT will talk about the ways in which Net art is experimentally documented, interpreted, contextualised and legitimised, for example through mailing lists, portals and creative interactive environments such as Furtherstudio. They will be asking what this means for artists, art historians and curators and whether it gives rise to new disciplines for art interpretation?
Charlotte Frost is currently a PhD student at The School of History of Art, Film and Visual Media, Birkbeck College, University of London with Charlie Gere. She is looking at the emergent practices of contextualisation integral to/catalysed by Net art, and how this affects the history of art as a discipline. She has been the editor of Furthertxt, a text-based contextualisation of Digital/New Media/Net Art and a regular writer for Rhizome, including producing reviews and Net
Art News. http://www.charlottefrost.info/
MARC GARRETT is the co-director of Furtherfield.org, an online platform for the creation, promotion, and criticism of adventurous digital/net art work for public viewing, experience and interaction.
