Miami Children’s Museum Artist-in-Residence – first deadline 23 November 2009

In its fourth year, the Artist-in-Residence program provides an opportunity for children and families to observe and interact with a professional visual artist when they visit. The artist in residence studio functions as a real artist studio.

The program is open to artists working in a variety of media including but not limited to painting, sculpture, installation, clay, textiles, illustration, and new media. The artist takes residence in the museum approximately 25 hours a week for 12 weeks. Our studio becomes the artist’s workplace. During open studio hours the public is welcome to talk to the artist about what they do and how they make their art. During special drop-in times, the artist works with visitors on projects decided on by the artist and our program staff. Uninterrupted, private studio time is also part of the program to encourage the continuation of the artist’s work.

At the conclusion of the residency, the artist will contribute one of the pieces he/ she worked on during the residency to our permanent collection. The artist also serves as the visiting art teacher to the students at the MCM Charter School, Inc., it’s after school program components and the MCM Early Childhood Institute. In addition, the artist also creates art activities for Free Museum Evenings (every 3rd Friday of the month).
