Call for participation – The Interactions Gallery, 29th British Human Computer Interaction Conference (HCI 2015) – deadline 1 May 2015

http://hci2015.bcs.org/participation/interactions-gallery/

The Interactions Gallery is a new initiative for 2015 and seeks submissions from creative practitioners, artists and HCI researchers alike. The call is anti-disciplinarian in nature with the goal for each piece to invite and provoke open discussion about the conference themes*, the nature of computers in society, and the future of HCI. The Interactions Gallery welcomes a diversity of work, including fine art, performance pieces, interactive media design, demonstrations and technologically augmented live experiences.

The Gallery will form a curated event, taking place during the drinks reception on the opening evening of the conference. The event will be documented in a feature article to be included in the main conference proceedings. Accepted submissions will need to be installed before, and removed after, the Interactions Gallery event; and this is the responsibility of the exhibitor. Attendance at the reception is also required of exhibitors with complimentary entry. Attendance at the main conference is encouraged and available at the standard rates.

Proposals should be made via email to drowland [at] lincoln.ac.uk, and include the following:

1) An abstract (max. 250 words) and header for inclusion in the proceedings. The abstract should be the practitioner/artist’s statement and include a rationale and the conceptual agenda behind the work. The header should contain a preferred name, a title for the work and any affiliation/contact details.

2) Up to three high quality images (300 dpi, actual size) of the proposed exhibit for inclusion in the proceedings.

3) A technical description of the piece detailing size and all requirements for exhibition (e.g. power, wifi, hanging space, trampoline…). This should also outline the desired audience interaction with the work at the event.

N.B. At this stage proposals should mention if work includes latex, other allergens or aspects likely to impact a risk assessment.

A standard ACM copyright release form will be required for all accepted work. Final selections of work for the Gallery will be made by a panel, and the event will be curated by the Interactions Gallery Chairs. If you have any queries about submitting a proposal, or have suggestions for works or artists who could be approached to submit work, please contact drowland [at] lincoln.ac.uk.

Deadline for submissions is: 1st May 2015 5pm BST
