The Flaxart International Residency Programme is open to all artists living outside Ireland and beyond the United Kingdom. Over the past ten years, we have hosted artists from Europe, Asia, America and Australia. We offer three 2 month residencies at our studio complex in the heart of Belfast.

Flaxart is positioned in the cultural hub of the thriving Cathedral Quarter. We accommodate international residents in the Flax house, located in a quiet street (Newington Avenue) off the Antrim Road in North Belfast, a twenty minute walk from the studios. The upcoming residency programme runs from 1 April 2010 to 31 March 2011 Successful applicants receive a studio, accommodation and a £500.00 monthly stipend for materials. Residents also have access to the Flaxart industrial-scale workshop, computer suite, video and audio equipment and the wireless broadband internet service (WI-FI). Artists can use the time to research and/or create new work stimulated by their experience of Belfast.

We particularly welcome artists who are prepared to connect broadly with the debates emerging from the post-conflict aspect of the city. By its nature, the International Residency Programme has opened up a range of possibilities for artists and arts organisations in Belfast. Over the years, a number of partnerships have been developed and these have led to residencies, exchange programmes and an increased international awareness of Flaxart Studios as a challenging residential facility for emerging and established artists.
