Call for programmer – Institute of Creative Technologies, De Montfort University, Leicester

An artistic project led by a post-doctoral researcher in the Institute Of Creative Technologies, requires a highly skilled programmer with an expert knowledge of Director, Flash, php, and MySQL databases, to refactor and develop an Interactive Sonic Environment, and extend the application to allow users’ participation and collaboration on the Internet. The programmer should have experience of dynamic rich media web applications, interest and/or experience in working with sound, and be able to follow commercial OOP development procedures.

This temporary position involves 18 weeks of work, spread over 2 years (6 weeks in year one and 12 weeks in year two). In year one, the work will concentrate on the creation of a database and a repository for sound, image and text files, the refactoring and development of the existent multimedia application in Director and/or Flash, and the incorporation of a text tool within the Sound Environment. In the second year, the existent interface will be extended and customised to allow users to experience the environment through dynamic asset selection. Input from the user is expected from a number of sources, and the programmer will need to experiment with on-line real time collaboration, and mobile technology.
