The Collide@CERN Geneva Award celebrates Geneva as an important place for art and science and the role of the city in the founding of CERN in the 1950s. The award marks CERN’s cultural partnership between the City and Canton of Geneva to fund for fourth time the award founded to lead the exploration of new forms of creativity in the dynamic and diverse artistic scene of Geneva.

Particle physics and arts meet at a common territory characterized by a powerful and shared curiosity to wonder, explore and interpret the laws of nature and our universe. Collide@CERN is the flagship programme of CERN in its engagement with the arts since the creation of the Cultural Policy “Great Arts for Great Science” in 2011. With this, CERN celebrates the importance of art and creativity providing the artists with the opportunity to engage into multidisciplinary research at the largest and most cutting-edge laboratory in the world.

The theme of this fourth edition of Collide@CERN Geneva is literature and digital writing. We invite writers and creators working in this experimental realm, and using digital formats as new forms of expression in writing to apply for a 3-month residency at CERN. Proposals should comment further into digital writing than the digitization of the analog, and use inventive ways linked to digital technologies and the networked society as well as ways information is generated and distributed online or offline. The writing proposals can be either in English or French.

The beneficiary will work at CERN for three months, during which time he/she will be supported with the guide and partnership of a CERN scientific partner. During this period the Arts@CERN team will curate and coordinate visits to experiments, encounters and conversations with scientists, engineers and staff at CERN.

A jury of experts will review the submissions and select the winner. The laureate artist will spend a residency of three months at CERN and will receive a grant of CHF 15’000 (fifteen thousand Swiss Francs) and a total amount of up to CHF 15,000 (fifteen thousand Swiss Francs), administered by CERN, for the development of a project. Collide@CERN Genève 2015/2016

Le prix Collide@CERN Genève met à l’honneur la ville de Genève en tant que haut lieu d’art et de science, et rend hommage au rôle qu’elle a joué dans la création du CERN, il y a plus de 60 ans. Le prix marque le partenariat culturel que le CERN a établi avec la Ville et le Canton de Genève dans le but de financer, pour la quatrième fois consécutive, le programme mis en place pour explorer de nouvelles formes de créativité sur la scène artistique dynamique et variée de la ville de Genève.

Les disciplines que sont la physique des particules et l’art se rejoignent sur un territoire commun, animées de la même curiosité à l’égard les lois de la nature et de notre Univers. Collide@CERN est le programme phare du CERN dans le domaine artistique depuis la création, en 2011, de la politique culturelle « Des arts en grand pour la science en grand ». À ce titre, le CERN célèbre l’importance des arts et de la créativité en offrant aux artistes la possibilité de se confronter à la recherche pluridisciplinaire menée dans le laboratoire le plus grand du monde, à la pointe de la technologie.

La quatrième édition du programme Collide@CERN Genève a pour thème la littérature et l’écrit numérique. Nous invitons les écrivains/écrivaines et créateurs/créatrices travaillant dans ce domaine expérimental et utilisant des supports numériques comme nouvelles formes d’expression d’écriture à présenter leur candidature pour une résidence de trois mois au CERN. Les propositions doivent porter davantage sur l’écrit numérique que sur la numérisation de supports analogiques, et faire appel à des moyens inventifs liés aux technologies numériques et à la société interconnectée, ainsi qu’à des méthodes de production et distribution d’informations en ligne ou hors ligne. Les propositions peuvent être rédigées en anglais ou en français.

Le lauréat ou la lauréate travaillera au CERN pendant trois mois, et sera guidé(e) par un partenaire scientifique du Laboratoire. Durant cette période, l’équipe d’Arts@CERN organisera et coordonnera des visites d’expériences, ainsi que des rencontres et des conversations avec des scientifiques, ingénieurs et membres du personnel du CERN.

Un jury d’experts examinera les dossiers et portera son choix sur un candidat. L’artiste lauréat effectuera une résidence de trois mois au CERN et recevra une bourse de 15 000 CHF (quinze mille francs suisses) et une somme de 15 000 CHF (quinze mille francs suisses), gérée par le CERN, pour le développement d’un projet.
