The New Sublime is an artist-led group show, presented as part of the Brighton Digital Festival. Now in it’s second year, we are delighted to announce we’re moving to the gallery at Phoenix, the largest gallery in Brighton. Last year we featured a dozen artists, including Evan Boehm, James Alliban, Kate Genevieve and Jan Vantomme.
Brighton Digital Festival is an ambitious, month-long celebration of digital culture running throughout September which last year featured over 175 events to a combined audience of over 41,000 people.
We are living in a golden age of potential for new media art and yet it has not broken through and been accepted by the contemporary art world. This could be in part because many things which are presented as digital art seem to be no more than demonstrations of the technology involved.
We are looking for art in any form which involves digital technology in its production and/or presentation.
The project is curated by the Fortunecats (shardcore and Sam Hewitt), Matt Pearson (zenbullets), Sue Gollifer (University of Brighton/ISEA) and Laurence Hill (Fabrica). We are particularly interested in hearing from emerging and mid-career artists from the South East UK whose practice involves concepts and/or emotions expressed through digital technology. We can offer practical, material and technical assistance with presentation or installation of work and a fee of £300-£800* (depending on scale of work). We will be holding two events where contributing artists have the opportunity to present their ideas to the public.
Submissions of no more than 500 words including CV and relevant links should be sent to
The deadline for submissions is midnight August 1st.
